Magenta data centre receives EN 50600 certification

In order to accompany customers in Styria and the southern provinces into the digital future, Magenta opened one of Europe’s most modern and energy-efficient data centres in southern Graz in May 2022. It has now been certified according to EN 50600. The next step is to plan a 30kWp PV system on the roof of the data centre.
Since last year, customers have been benefiting from the powerful digital infrastructure of the new Magenta data centre in Graz, such as additional capacity for Gigabit Internet, 5G mobile communications and HD-television. New innovative products such as the provision of data centre space have also been created for business customers. During the excavation work for the construction of the data centre, additional data lines were laid so that up to 2.000 new households and businesses in Graz could be connected to Magenta Telekom’s fibre optic cable network.
With the EN 50600 certification, the data centre now also has official proof of its quality, performance and security. The next step is to plan a PV system to generate sustainable electricity for its own infrastructure.
The EN 50600 certification process has been accompanied by Frauscher Consulting GmbH and also the construction of the Magenta data centre with design, project management and ensuring compliance with service level agreements. Reliable and energy-efficient design and services for data centres are the focus of one of Austria’s leading consulting and planning companies for data centre infrastructure. Gernot Frauscher, managing director of his same-name consulting company, is a member of the European working group TC215/WG3 of the European standardisation organisation CENELEC, which created the EN 50600 series of standards. Since 2017, Frauscher has been editor of EN 50600-2-3 and ISO/IEC project leader for the ISO/IEC 22237-4 and ISO/IEC 22237-6 parts of the standard. ISO 22237 is the international version of the European EN 50600.
What is EN 50600?
EN 50600 has been available since 2013 and has been continuously expanded with additional sections since then. Recently, all sections on the planning and construction of data centres have been published in a second, completely revised edition. This European guideline enables operators to plan, operate and expand their IT infrastructures in a future-proof manner. EN 50600 provides uniform European specifications for the physical security and availability as well as the security of supply of data centres. This makes it possible for data centre customers to compare the quality of the data centre services offered. EN 50600 is divided into general concepts, building construction, energy supply, air conditioning, cabling and security technology. Management and efficiency aspects as well as KPIs on energy consumption and renewable energies supplement the sections on planning and construction.
