Awarded together
Frauscher Consulting accompanies the data centre of the city of Vienna on its way to the UZ 80 environmental label.

Sustainability has long been a key issue – also in the data centre industry. A good example of this is the data centre of Stadt Wien GmbH (RZW) – the first Austrian data centre to be awarded the Austrian Ecolabel in accordance with the UZ 80 guideline. This special recognition was presented by Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig at a ceremony in the Marble Hall of the Ministry of the Environment on October 31st, 2025. Together with Ing. Christian Altenberger, managing director of the RZW GmbH, Daniel Lieb received the certificate from the Environment Minister. A visible sign of the successful partnership between operator and consultant.
Sustainability is a cross-cutting task
We provided RZW GmbH with comprehensive expertise on its path to certification. Our team assisted with the analysis of existing processes, the development of suitable measures and the verification process during certification. „Sustainability is a cross-cutting task, particularly in data centre operations – it affects energy supply, cooling, monitoring and organisation in equal measure,“ explains Daniel Lieb.
Numerous measures
The RZW GmbH, a company belonging to the WSE Wiener Standortentwicklung GmbH, operates a data centre in Donaustadt for the city of Vienna. As part of the environmental certification process, numerous measures were implemented, including a comprehensive energy monitoring system, the use of outside air and groundwater for cooling, and continuous monitoring of IT utilisation. This has resulted in a significant reduction in energy consumption and emissions.
Award as an incentive
We are delighted to have provided technical guidance and support throughout this process. We see this award as an incentive to continue working with our customers to take responsibility for an efficient and environmentally conscious future in data centres.
